Christmas in Chester

We brought motorhome Broccoli to Chester Fairoaks Motorhome and Caravan site on Boxing Day for a few festive days away with the fam!

We glammed up the rig for the holidays which the kids loved.

Let me tell you though, some people had really gone all out! Even the owners had made an effort which was lovely.

I can honestly say it is one of the best sites for entertaining kids. Let me tell you why. There is a playground on site, standard.

About 100 metres from the site is a Hungry Horse pub called The Rake. The food is very reasonable, in fact if you sign up to their newsletter they will send you a £5 voucher if you spend £15. Do it in advance of visiting as it can take up to 72 hours for the voucher to be sent through.

The best part of the pub is the indoor soft play area. We went 3 days in a row and the kids loved it! It was mega busy over Christmas so beware, our ears were ringing when we left!

Also on the doorstep is Cheshire Oaks retail park, about a ten minute walk away. You do have to cross a busy road so bear that in mind. Now, shopping with little ones isn’t ideal, but also on the complex is the Blue Planet Aquarium. It isn’t cheap, it cost us £48 with 2 adults and 2 kids under 4 as it is based on height. But booking online saved us 10%.

We spent most of the day there as we bought food (another £40) and took our time with the exhibits, taking in some of the talks. It wore out the girls (and us).

From just outside the aquarium you can get a bus into Chester, which goes via the zoo. Another expensive day but well worth a visit. We decided on the aquarium this time given the time of year.

The bus takes about 15 mins into Chester and cost us £8.80 return for 2 adults. In Chester there is loads to do and see including the Rows shopping streets. Near the bus station is Northgate Arena with a large swimming pool complex. We planned to visit but unfortunately our luck was not in as the pool was closed for refurbishment. Given that this has happened to us before I was careful to check the website but unfortunately their information was inaccurate. Lesson learnt, we will now call ahead for any activities we plan to visit. In fact we had planned to visit Southport over Christmas as their pool looked great, but following a call with them, I was informed they were also closed for refurbishment!

Big thumbs up to Chester, very clean, helpful and loads to do for kids! We will come again in the warmer months to visit the zoo.
